About US
The Kenai Central Peninsula Music Teachers is a nonprofit organization serving a vast and sparsely populated region of Alaska—where fewer than two people per square mile inhabit a state larger than Texas, California, and Montana combined. Despite the challenges of distance and isolation, our teachers facilitate music education and performance opportunities that reach national recognition.
Most of our members are based in South-central Alaska(Kenai Peninsula), with outreach extending as far as the remote Aleutian Islands. We proudly host an annual Gold Cup Festival through the National Federation of Music Clubs (NFMC) therewith Alaska Federation of Music Clubs (AKFMC), providing both in-person and online adjudication to accommodate our geographically diverse students. Our Gold Cup Event Chair and chief organizer, Mark Weathers, NCTM, is also a founding member of our association.
In addition to our membership in NFMC, many of our team hold proud membership with Music Teachers National Association (MTNA) , therewith, Alaska MusicTeachers Association (AMTA) As we grow, several of our members have become nationally certified teachers of music (NCTM) through MTNA. Our president, Lynda Lybeck-Robinson, NCTM, is the state chair for National Certification and welcomes all new inquiries.
We are currently reaching out to the entire state of Alaska as we continue to grow in number. Because of the modest population statewide, we welcome members from all regions in this great state.
Our enthusiasm knows no bounds—our students and teachers face remarkable odds, yet we persevere, create, and celebrate through the power of music.
